I seem to be getting this question a lot recently. I am in college, living in the dorms, with very little responsibility outside of papers and homework and maintaining friendships.
Why am I spending so much time blogging, researching, cutting and organizing coupons? I don't grocery shop yet, I don't even have an apartment yet, but I am very passionate about savings.
I have always been cheap frugal, it's just a way of life for me. I love the getting a good bargain. And I love the idea that I can save that extra money for something more important.
With loans casting LARGE shadows over my future, and seeing how the job market is, I know that I'll need to be frugal for a good while after graduation to stay out of credit card debt, and pay down my student loans.
If I can make couponing and bargain hunting a habit now, it won't be a big deal in a few years when I'll actually need to be pinching pennies.
Things I'm doing now to help me create this habit:
- Following couponers on twitter
- Researching sales
- Blogging about relevant deals to college students
- Cutting and Organizing coupons
- Finding grocery deals and passing them on to my mother (whom I live my grocery deals out through vicariously)
- Reading blogs and forums about stores in my areas sales, coupon policies, and promotions etc…
So, what are YOU doing to create a thrifty lifestyle?
